This means that all you need to do is dig the post holes, secure the fence block to the post and you are done.  How awesome is that?!

What Building Works Require Building Consent

When renovating it is very important to check ‘what building requires building consent’ and ‘what building does not require building consent’.

New Zealand is full of the DYI Home Owner, which is great, but the offside to that is that often works are completed without council knowledge.  This can create a lot of issues later on down the track, particularly when it comes to sale time.  Ultimately unauthorised works will limit the market to your home, decrease the sale price and cost you money fixing it.

Before you engage in a project, check to make sure if the works require consent.

Leaky Building Government Relief – Is It What It Seems?

The Government has just announced a financial assistance package for leaky home owners, that will be available from today.

What this means is that the Government will give 25% of the repair costs with the Local Council that signed the work off providing another 25% of the costs.

The banks that have agreed to lend under this […]

The story in short is that they purchased the land using their personal finances as a deposit, with the intentions of using their […]

The Reserve Bank Governer, Allan Bollard, has today left the OCR at the level of 2.5%. You can read the media release on the release here on stuff.co.nz

The leading economists like Tony Alexander from BNZ has commented here that he is of the belief that interest rates are going to move upwards starting from September – earlier than the previously predicted December or Early 2012 when the Christchurch rebuilding begins.

Comments made below by Allan Bollard are also along the same lines.

How to Buy a Home in Today’s Market

At the moment I am often hearing the question “How do I buy a home?”

The fact is home buyers are increasingly having a difficult time to buy property in the current market conditions. I am coming across a lot of buyers that have missed out on 3 -4 properties, and in some cases more.

We are currently in a sellers market, with more listings than buyers, good properties that are priced correctly are being snapped up fast and often with multiple offers.

Here are 5 quick tips for home buyers to stay ahead of the competition:

  1. Educate yourself so that you are prepared, know […]
